SPEED LIMITER MANDATE STOPPED!
On June 27th, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy announced that FMCSA is withdrawing the proposed speed limiter rulemaking so professional drivers can operate their vehicles safely. We thank OOIDA Members and truckers everywhere for opposing this dangerous mandate.
FAST FACTS ABOUT SPEED LIMITERS
- Speed limiters raise crash risks by increasing speed differences between cars and trucks—leading to more interactions and more accidents. This is confirmed by decades of research
- The American Trucking Associations (ATA) petitioned the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to impose a speed limiter mandate that would restrict all heavy-duty trucks to a single top speed across the country.
- OOIDA supports the Deregulating Restrictions on Interstate Vehicles and Eighteen-Wheelers (DRIVE) Act to prohibit FMCSA from implementing regulations mandating the use of speed limiters on heavy-duty trucks. Enacting this legislation will prevent FMCSA from advancing any new speed limiter rule in the future.
