    The information we collect
The personal and/or non-personal information we collect from you will vary depending on the type of product, service or inquiry you choose. The following is a description of the different areas featured on our web site where we ask you to provide personal or non-personal information.

Online forms: The OOIDA and Land Line sites provide online forms to request applications for certain benefit programs, request benefit coverage quotes, sign up for membership with OOIDA, pay for membership dues and/or benefit coverages and subscribe to Land Line Magazine. The specific information we collect from online forms will vary depending on the type of product, service or inquiry you choose. For example, the information we may collect from online forms includes (but is not limited to) name, address, telephone number, date of birth, social security number, credit card number and details about your trucking operation.

Call-to-action program/legislative alerts/security alerts: When you register for the call-to-action program, legislative alerts or security alerts, you will be notified via e-mail when there is breaking legislative news or security issues affecting you. Your e-mail address is stored on our file server. We don’t use a third party list builder to send call-to-action/legislative/security alerts. Occasionally, OOIDA staff will contact you by telephone if we think immediate action to a legislative or security issue is needed. The courtesy call is made to inform you of the legislative or security issue and the action we suggest you take.
If at any time you want to be removed from the call-to-action, legislative alerts or security alerts, you’ll find an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every e-mail you receive.

Daily e-mail news: When you register for the daily e-mail news, you are asked to submit your e-mail address, first and last name, and the state in which you live. Your e-mail address is stored on our file server. We don’t use a third party list builder to send daily e-mail news. If at any time you want to be removed from the daily e-mail news, you’ll find an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every e-mail you receive.

Subscribing to Land Line Magazine online: Land Line Magazine is free to transportation professionals who meet certain criteria. Our circulation auditing firm, Alliance for Audited Media, needs to certify the eligibility of our subscribers. When you subscribe to Land Line online, AAM requires us to collect a unique identifier from you since you can’t submit your signature online. We ask you to submit your date of birth as your unique identifier. We also ask for your name, complete address, e-mail address, and details about your type of trucking operation.
If you submit an e-mail address, we may notify you by e-mail when your subscription to Land Line Magazine is about to expire or to re-qualify you as a subscriber. If any of the information you submit is different from the information stored in our database, we will use the current information to update your record in our database.

Surveys: OOIDA/Land Line collects information from you when you voluntarily participate in our online surveys. The information we may collect from surveys includes (but is not limited to) your name, address, phone number and e-mail address. However, most of our online surveys are blind surveys so personal information is not asked for or collected.

    Cookies and log files
Non-personal information is automatically collected through the standard operation of our Internet server. Our server collects non-personal information using session cookies. Cookies don’t reveal personal information about you. A session cookie is a line of text that is stored temporarily in your computer’s memory and not written to your computer’s hard drive. Because this type of cookie is not written to your computer’s hard drive, it is destroyed as soon as you close your browser.
A session cookie makes it possible for you to access different areas of our web site without re-registering or re-entering your password. The help function on most browsers contains information on how to set your browser to notify you before accepting a cookie or to disable cookies entirely. However, if you don’t accept cookies, some pages on our site won’t display properly or you may receive error messages.
Log files also are used to collect non-personal information such as the date and time of your visit to the web site, your IP address and your browser type. This non-personal information allows us to track traffic patterns and trends or to identify technical problems with our site.

    Information we may disclose
We do not sell or rent any members’ or subscribers’ personal information to telemarketers, mailing list brokers or any other non-affiliated company. We may disclose your information to third parties only upon proper request, or as required or permitted by law. Subscriber names and demographics are disclosed to BPA International for auditing purposes and industry reporting. Additionally, we disclose your information in the limited manner necessary to service or process transactions you request or authorize. See the section titled “To whom we disclose information” for a list of outside companies in which your information may be shared in order to service or process your request.
We may share aggregate statistics compiled from online surveys with the media, government agencies, advertisers and other third parties. We also may publish, online or in print, aggregate statistics compiled from the surveys. These aggregate statistics will not allow anyone to identify your name or other personal information about you.

    To whom we disclose information:
If you purchase an insurance product through an OOIDA subsidiary, we share the information that you provide with a limited number of outside insurance companies so that your policies and claims can be processed quickly and efficiently. Following is a list of these companies:

    Safeguarding your information
We work to protect the security of your information during transmissions by using secure socket layer (SSL) software, which encrypts the information you input. We also use passwords and various firewalls. These measures increase the security and privacy of information traveling to, from, and within OOIDA and Land Line Magazine web sites.
Employees who have access to any online information are required to follow company procedures designed to keep the information secure and confidential. Employees who violate our privacy policies will be subject to disciplinary actions, including termination when appropriate.

Forums, chats and discussion groups: It is important to understand that the information you submit in discussion groups, bulletin boards and chat rooms is publicly displayed. While these forums, chats and discussion groups are restricted to OOIDA members only, it is possible your messages will be seen by people and organizations not related to OOIDA or Land Line, and may be used by these third parties to contact you. As a result, you should be very careful about the information that you include in these messages. Because these unrelated parties will also see your “user name” on any postings that you make in the discussion groups, you may not want to use your full name.

Advertisers: Advertiser links or web site links that you go to from our site may collect personal information, and may have their own privacy policies that differ from, and are not covered by, our privacy policy. It is important that you review any privacy policies on these sites carefully before you use any services or programs they offer.

    Changes to our privacy policy
If our privacy policy changes, we will post the changes on our websites and other places we think appropriate so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.

If you have questions about this privacy policy, please send an e-mail to privacy@ooida.com, call 800-444-5791, or write us at:

  • The number of members in the Association allows OOIDA to continue representing the nation’s small business truckers. Our large membership gives us the financial depth to hang on for the long haul in court cases. Our large membership gives us ‘weight’ when it comes time to let Washington, D.C., know how truckers feel about their industry.
