U.S. Senate Passes Bipartisan Infrastructure Package, Ignores Truck Parking

The Senate has passed an infrastructure bill without adopting the Kelly/Lummis parking amendment. This amendment provided roughly $1 billion for truck parking projects. While this outcome is disappointing, OOIDA thanks Senators Mark Kelly and Cynthia Lummis for introducing the bipartisan amendment and will continue working with them to enact truck parking legislation.

The $1 trillion bill in overall spending includes $550 billion in new spending on roads, bridges, airports, ports, electric vehicle charging stations, internet, water systems, and other infrastructure needs. About $110 billion would go specifically toward roads and bridges. The package also incorporates the Senate version of the highway bill which does not increase minimum insurance levels. The bill now advances to the House of Representatives where further action is expected this fall.
